Director and Co-Founder of the Yemen Policy Center

Mareike Transfeld is the Co-Founder and Director of Yemen Policy Center Germany e.V., where she manages the research components of various projects in the fields of the security sector, civil society and media. She is a PhD candidate at the Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies (BGSMCS), Freie Universität Berlin. She was also an Associate Fellow at the Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient. Until 2015, she was a Research Fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. She is a former co-editor of Muftah’s Yemen and Gulf countries pages. She has published in numerous academic and policy journals/platforms, including Mediterranean Politics, Democratization, Sada by Carnegie Endowment for International Peace or the Project on Middle Eastern Politics at the George Washington University. She served as a research consultant for various international entities, including the EU, GIZ, the UN, or the German Federal Foreign Office. She has more than ten years of experience in academia and policy research.
