The Yemen Policy Center (YPC) is pleased to invite you to a virtual discussion,
“Re-thinking the Ceasefire Process in Yemen’s Conflict”
on February 23th , 2022, from 11.00–12.30pm New York

At this event, YPC Research Fellow, Hadil Al-Mowafak, along with International Crisis Group Senior Researcher, Peter Salisbury, will critically reflect on the UN-led peace process in Yemen, specifically the process of brokering a ceasefire. Al-Mowafak will present the research findings of a year-long project on increasing civil society engagement with the ceasefire process funded by the German Federal Foreign Office’s IFA Zivik funding program. The work highlights possibilities to address civil society’s exclusion from the peace process and their potential role in civilian harm monitoring within the context of a future ceasefire. Salisbury will present his insights from a year and a half of analysis on the economy’s role in Yemen’s conflict by exploring the prospects for brokering an economic ceasefire, especially given the current stalemate in the political process.

Panelists:
Hadil Al-Mowafak became a Yemen Policy Center Research Fellow in 2020. In 2015, she joined Mwatana Organization as a researcher of human rights violations, documenting cases of civilian casualties, child soldiers, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, and restrictions on journalistic freedoms. She holds a B.A in Political Science from Stanford University (2020).
Peter Salisbury is International Crisis Group’s Senior Analyst for Yemen. He has more than a decade of wide-ranging experience as a print, online, and broadcast journalist. He has published a series of highly regarded papers on Yemen for Chatham House, the London-headquartered think tank where he is also a senior consulting fellow.
